Not medical advice
The content on blackneurodivergence.com is for general informational and educational purposes only. It is written from research and lived experience by people who are not licensed clinicians. Nothing on this Site is medical, psychological, psychiatric or legal advice, and nothing here should be used to diagnose or treat any condition. Always seek the advice of a qualified health professional with any questions you have about a medical or mental health condition. Never disregard professional advice or delay seeking it because of something you read here.
Patterns, not rules
When we describe how a condition "shows up" for Black people or Black Women, we are describing patterns that appear in research and in lived experience. Every person is different. Nothing here applies to everyone, and nothing here is a substitute for an individual evaluation.
Sources and accuracy
We cite our sources so you can check them. Definitions attributed to organizations such as the National Institute of Mental Health, the NHS or Cleveland Clinic are quoted or closely paraphrased from their public pages as they read on the date noted on each article. Those organizations may update their wording. We make reasonable efforts to keep content accurate but do not guarantee it is complete, current or error-free. If you find an error, tell us and we will review it.
If you are in crisis
If you are thinking about harming yourself or are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line right away. In the United States, call or text 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline).
